Using Character Styles in InDesign
What are Character styles?
Character styles in InDesign help you apply consistent formatting to selected words or phrases without changing the whole paragraph. They are useful for emphasis, special terms, prices, names and any repeated text treatment.

Why Styles?
If you are not using styles in your InDesign documents, you are probably spending longer than necessary on formatting. Character styles are a good place to start, but you may also want to look at Paragraph Styles.
How Character Styles Work
Character styles are straightforward. Create a style, highlight the word or section of text you want to format, then apply the style from the Character Styles panel.
You can also nest character styles within paragraph styles for a much higher level of control. This is useful when repeated text patterns need to format automatically.
