How to Merge InDesign Documents with an Excel Spreadsheet?
The Data Merge feature in InDesign lets you create the equivalent of a mail merge document. You design one InDesign file, then merge data from a spreadsheet to produce personalised versions.
This is useful when you need to create badges, certificates, catalogues, labels, letters or any document where the layout stays the same but the details change.
InDesign uses CSV files for Data Merge, so you will usually prepare your data in Excel first and then save or export it as a CSV file before importing it into InDesign.
If you would like to explore this further, our Intermediate InDesign Training Course covers Data Merge and other productivity features in more detail.
