What's a Slicer and How Do You Use One Effectively With a Pivot Table?
Using Pivot Tables is a great way to summarize your data, but say you want a slicer to change the value of a cell. Slicers provide a visual way to filter data in a Pivot Table, making it easier to analyze specific subsets of your data.
Steps to Use a Slicer with a Pivot Table
- Create a Pivot Table: Select your data range and go to the Insert tab. Click on Pivot Table and choose where you want the Pivot Table to be placed.
- Add a Slicer: With the Pivot Table selected, go to the PivotTable Analyze tab and click on Insert Slicer. Choose the field you want to use for the slicer and click OK.
- Drag the Field to the Filter: In the Pivot Table Fields pane, drag the field you used for the slicer down to the Filters area.
- Note the Cell Value: When you use the slicer to filter data, note that the cell (e.g., B2) has been filled with the slicer content. This cell will display the selected value from the slicer.
